| Show-jumper, born in Bingley, West Yorkshire, N England, UK. He won the British championships, and the British Grand Prix, on several occasions, and represented Britain in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and at Munich in 1972. Horses most closely associated with him include Salvador, O'Malley, Mattie Brown, Farmer's Boy, and Harvester. With the increasing prominence and popularity of show-jumping, Smith became a well-known figure, parodying the blunt, bluff, Yorkshireman. He has written two books, Show Jumping with Harvey Smith (1979) and Bedside Jumping (1985). |
