| Rabbi and scholar, born in New York City, New York, USA. He studied at the City College of New York and earned a PhD from Dropsie College (Philadelphia) in 1929. He was rabbi of Temple Beth-El, Rockaway Park, NY (1931–68) and professor of religion at Temple University, Columbia University, and the Jewish Theological Seminary. His many publications include Conservative Judaism - An American Philosophy (1945) and Judaic Ethics for a Lawless World (1986). |
