| Irish patriot, born in Dublin, Ireland. He left Trinity College, Dublin, to join the United Irishmen, and travelled on the European mainland for the Irish cause, at one point meeting Napoleon. In 1803 he plotted an insurrection against the English, but it proved a failure. He was captured and hanged in Dublin. |
