| Poet and novelist, born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He studied Dutch language and literature in Amsterdam, and began his literary career as an editor for the literary magazines Revisor and Tirade. He is also a literary critic for the Parool newspaper. In 1979 he published his first, rather traditional, volume of poetry, Waar ik nog ben (Where I Still Am). In 1992 appeared his first novel De thuiskomst van Kapitein Rob (The Homecoming of Captain Rob). A recurring theme in his work is the individual's struggle against isolation and alienation in a changing society. |
