| biography:
| Drummer, singer, songwriter, and actor, born in Liverpool, Merseyside, NW England, UK. He replaced Pete Best as the Beatles' drummer, and following the group's break-up in 1970 embarked on a solo career with the albums Sentimental Journey (1970), Beaucoups of Blues (1971), and Ringo (1973). He continued to record into the 1980s, with albums such as Stop and Smell the Roses (1981), then built up his ‘All Starrs’ band, which toured in 1989, 1992, 1995, and 1997. His wry, deadpan humour was a major feature of the Beatles' films, and he continued as an actor as early as 1968, in Candy, following this with The Magic Christian (1969). Later films include Blindman (1972), That'll Be The Day (1973), Lisztomania (1975), Stardust (1975), and Alice Through the Looking Glass (1985), and in 1973 he produced the horror spoof, Son of Dracula. He later became more involved with general show-business concerns, but joined the remaining Beatles in producing their anthology in 1995. |
