| Mathematician and philosopher, born in Lember, Austria. He was professor at Dresden, Berlin, Istanbul, and (from 1939) Harvard. An authority in aerodynamics and hydrodynamics, he set out in Wahrscheinlichkeit, Statistik und Wahrheit (1928, Probability, Statistics and Truth) a frequency theory of probability which has had a wide influence, though not acceptance. |
