As a professional writer, he produced 70 000 words a week under various pseudonyms for Gem, Magnet, and other papers. He created ‘Billy Bunter’ and ‘Greyfriars School’ for The Magnet, and after World War 2, wrote numerous books about ‘Billy Bunter’ and ‘Tom Merry’, becoming the most prolific author in the history of juvenile fiction. |
