| Hermit, mystic, and poet, born in Thornton, West Yorkshire, N England, UK. He studied at Oxford, but at 19 became a hermit, first at Dalton and then at Hampole, near Doncaster. He wrote lyrics, meditations, and religious works in Latin and English, and translated and expounded the Psalms in prose. |
