| Explorer, born in Truro, Cornwall, SW England, UK. In 1825 he accompanied Hugh Clapperton to West Africa. There Clapperton died, and Lander published an account of the expedition. In 1830 he and his brother John (1807–39) traced the course of the lower Niger. During a third expedition, he was fatally wounded by the local Niger population. |
