biography: Writer, born in Bonn, W Germany. His tragi-comic plays combine elements of cabaret, satire, and Surrealism, and include Revolutionäre (1954) and Thymian und Drachentod (1955). He has made an important contribution to radio drama in his experimental plays, with their treatment of contemporary issues, notably Nachtprogramm (1946), Szenen um Elsbet (1969), and Rosie (1969). Later works include socially critical novels and science fiction. He is also a translator.
