| Museum director, born in Stockholm, Sweden, the brother of Claes Oldenburg. His family emigrated to the USA (1936) and he studied at Harvard (1954 BA). He was manager of the design department for Doubleday & Co, New York City (1958–61), and was an editor for Macmillan Co (1961–9). He became director of publishing for the Museum of Modern Art (1969–72) and then the director of the museum (1972). |
