He became a contributor to Punch in 1843, designed the famous cover that was used from 1849 to 1956, furnished the well-known ‘Ye Manners and Customs of ye Englyshe’ and the first of the famous ‘Brown, Jones, and Robinson’ travel and other adventures. In 1850 he left, resenting the journal's anti-Catholic position, and devoted himself to painting and book illustration. |
