| Philosopher, born in Banbury, North Oxfordshire, SC England, UK. He studied physics and mathematics at Cambridge, but switched to philosophy. He became a fellow at Cambridge (1924), lecturer in moral science (1928–53), and professor of moral philosophy (1953–67). He is best known for his theories in the philosophy of science, and the study of moral and religious philosophy, particularly the application of mathematical game theory. Notable works include Scientific Explanation (1953) and Theory of Games as a Tool for the Moral Philosopher (1955). |
