| French singer, born in Egypt of an English mother and Turkish father. He settled in Paris, where he studied law. A saxophonist, influenced by Paul Anka, he sings in French to American rhythms. He became famous in 1960 after releasing a single ‘Tu m'étais destinée’ (1958). Other songs include ‘Nouvelle Vague’, ‘Aranjuez mon amour’ (1967), and ‘Amoureux de ma femme’ (1967). His success faded with the rise of Johnny Hallyday. |
