| Writer, born in Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, N Italy. A founder of the literary review La Ronda, he became best known for his novels, notably the trilogy Il mulino del Po (1938–40). The books have a traditional structure and deal with various themes, ranging from the historical and political to the religious and even erotic. Typical of the La Ronda tradition, their style avoids experimentalism and shows a return to the traditional Italian novel. |
