| biography:
| French poet of Scottish-American ancestry, born in London. She was educated in London but lived most of her life in Paris and wrote in French. Her work was influenced by her extensive travels in Europe and the Orient and her lesbianism. Though gifted, beautiful, and rich, she was unhappy, and hated the age in which she lived. Her important works are Cendres et poussières (1902), Les Kitharèdes (1904), and Sillages (1908). Other works include Dans un coin de violettes (1908) and Le Vent des vaisseaux (1909). She converted to Roman Catholicism in later life. |
