| Film maker, born in Bordeaux, SW France. Originally a student of architecture, his first film in honour of the railwaymens' resistance to occupation in World War 2 was La bataille du rail (1946). Awards include two prizes at Cannes and Prix Méliès. He increasingly directed American actors in his later films. |
