| Tennis player, born in Arbonne, near Biarritz, SW France. He won the men's singles title at Wimbledon in 1924 and 1926, and at Roland-Garros (1924, 1931), and his extraordinary fitness enabled him to compete in veterans' events at that same venue when he was almost 80. He also won the French and Australian championships, as well as several Davis Cup medals between 1927 and 1932 as a member of the Mousquetaires, led by René Lacoste. |
