| Novelist and journalist, born in Nyons, SE France. After various jobs, mostly in banking, he turned to literature and became a master of science fiction. A sentence from La Faim du tigre (1966) illustrates his thinking: ‘Il est bien difficile de croire que tant de merveilles soient l'effet du hasard et de la chimie. Dieu?’ Notable novels include the best-selling Ravage (1943), Le Voyageur imprudent (1944), La Nuit des temps (1968), Les Chemins de Katmandou (1969), La Dame à la Licorne (1974), and La Charrette bleue (1980). After World War 2 he was chief critic for Carrefour (1947–50). |
