| biography:
| Poet, born in Alsace, or Hagenau, Austria. He first served the lords of Hagenau, but by 1195 had settled in Vienna, where he became court poet to the Babenberg dukes. His courtly Minnelieder are reflective in tone, and concerned above all with unrequited love. Together with Heinrich von Morungen (d.1222) and Walther von der Vogelweide (a former pupil), he is considered to be chief among the Minnesänger. Walther went on to parody Reinmar's ‘Danubian’ style combining set motifs with a refined ideal of ‘Minne’. Of the numerous songs attributed to Reinmar, only 30 are now considered authentic. |
