| Writer, born in Breslau-Lissa, Germany (now Wrocław, SW Poland). He studied history and literature, then became an editor in Munich and later a literary critic. His first novel, Der Löwengarten (1962), depicts the world of film and journalism in ironical and lively terms. Further novels chronicle the Nazi period, such as Hausmusik (1962) and Richard Wagner. Wahnfried. Bilder einer Ehe (1985), and other works include the tale Panzerkreuzer Potjomkin (1967). Among his essays are Aussichten des Romans (1968), Die verdrängte Phantasie (1974), and Glücksgeist und Jammerseele (1986). In addition he wrote television plays, including Jettchen Geberts Geschichte (1979). |
