| biography:
| French Marxist theorist. He studied at the Ecole Normale Supérieure, gained international fame through his association with the Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara in Latin America during the 1960s, and was sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment in Bolivia (1967). He was released from jail in 1970, and was appointed a specialist adviser to President Mitterrand on Third World affairs (1981). His most influential writings have been Strategy for Revolution (1970) and The Power of the Intellectual in France (1979). |
