| Soprano, born in Marseille, S France. She studied at the Conservatoire, where she later taught in 1976 after the ‘concours des plus belles voix de France’. She performed Wagner in French, then in German at Bayreuth, and Poulenc wrote Le Dialogue des Carmelites especially for her. A keen sense of phrazing and the quality of her voice earned her an international career, allowing her to tackle melodies with equal success, including works by Berlioz and Raynaldo Hahn. Also a talented actress, she appeared in the operetta Christine by Offenbach. Her memoirs were published as La Vie et l'Amour d'une Femme. |
