| Footballer, born in Montevideo, Uruguay. He grew up playing for his local team, Danubio FC, and at age 17 was signed to Nacional, one of his country's two big clubs, where he scored 57 goals in 51 games. He joined Inter Milan in 1997, but after a loan spell at AC Venezia was suspended from the Italian League for four months when he was found to have false passport papers. During this time he was still eligible to compete for his country, and gave some inspired performances for his team, helping them reach the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals in Korea/Japan.
