| Cricketer, born in Melbourne, Victoria, NE Australia. In the great Don Bradman Test side that won the Ashes series 4–0 in 1948, he established himself as the world's leading all-rounder of the time, a flamboyant figure renowned for aggressive strokes and fast bowling. During his career he scored 2598 runs in 55 Test matches, including seven centuries, and took 170 wickets. After retirement in 1956 he became a sports journalist. |
