| Writer of science fiction, born in Waukegan, Illinois, USA. An avid reader of sensational fiction and comics, he began early to contribute to magazines and short-story anthologies. Well-known stories include The Day It Rained Forever, R is for Rocket, and those collected as The Martian Chronicles (1950, filmed 1966). Later novels include A Graveyard for Lunatics (1990), Green Shadows, White Whale (1992), and Ahmed and the Oblivion Machines (1998). |
