| Physicist, born in Washington, District of Columbia, USA. He studied at the University of Maryland (BS 1937, MS 1940) and at Yale (PhD 1942), later joining the University of Pennsylvania. He shared the 2002 Nobel Prize for Physics for his pioneering contributions to astrophysics, in particular for the detection of cosmic neutrinos. |
