| Writer, born in Washington, District of Columbia, USA. She studied at the University of Wisconsin, Madison (1918), worked as a publicist in New York City (1918–19), wrote verses for a United Features syndicate (1926–8), and settled in Florida (1928), first in Cross Creek and later in St Augustine (1941). Her first novel for young readers, The Yearling (1938), won the Pulitzer Prize. |
