| Painter, born in Annapolis, Maryland, USA, the son of Charles Willson Peale. Based in Philadelphia, he helped his father run the Peale Museum (1790–1800). He produced silhouettes (c.1802), and illusionist still-life paintings which he called ‘deceptions’, as seen in ‘After the Bath’ (1823). |
