| Artist and designer, born in Le Havre, NW France. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, and was much influenced by Fauvism, which he later abandoned. From 1907 to 1918 he produced many fabric designs and engraved book illustrations, and in 1919 went to the Riviera, where he began a long series of swift calligraphic sketches of seascapes, regattas, and racecourse scenes. |
