| biography:
| Catalan painter, born in Barcelona, NE Spain, the brother of writer and editor Joaquim Casas i Carbó. He moved to Paris in 1883 where he worked for Carolus Duran, the fashionable portrait artist of the French capital. There he painted a magnificent series of portraits such as that of the famous composer Erik Satie, now in the Chicago Museum, and scenes such as the Ball del Moulin de la Galette, now in the Cau Ferrat in Sitges. Winner of several prizes at the exhibitions held in Barcelona, Madrid, Vienna, Berlin and Munich, he also created the famous Anís del Mono advertisement (1899). |
