| biography:
| Philosopher, born in Tiruchuli, S India. At the age of 17 a religious experience led him to become a hermit at the holy mountain of Arunachala, where he remained until his death. Much of the time he lived in caves and avoided publicity, but he later allowed devotees to establish an ashram. His philosophy of seeking self-knowledge through integration of the personality in the ‘cave of the heart’ became known to Westerners through the books of Paul Brunton as well as his own Collected Works (1969) and other anthologies. |
