| Investment banker, born in White Plains, New York, USA. He studied at Princeton (1953), then joined the investment house, Kidder, Peabody & Co, rising to chief executive officer (1980–7). He chaired the board of governors of the New York Stock Exchange (1971–2) and served as a Princeton trustee and as director of several major firms, including the Federal Express Corp and Nike Inc. |
