| Architect and writer, born in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, USA. In partnership in Boston with Bertram Goodhue and then with Frank William Ferguson (1892–1913), he became identified with the Gothic Revival style, particularly in church and collegiate architecture. His projects include the Cathedral of St John the Divine, New York (1915–41), West Point (1903–10), and Princeton University (1907–29). He directed architecture studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1914–19) and published several books on Gothic architecture and mediaeval-based social systems. |
