| biography:
| Folklorist and poet, born in San Juan, Mallorca, Spain. He studied for the priesthood, was ordained in 1924, and served as prior at several different houses of the Franciscan Order. He wrote the Introducción al Blauquerna for Las Obras Literarias de Ramón Llull (1948) and the prologue to volume XXI of Las obras de Ramón Llull, for which he was elected member of the Maioricensis Schola Lullistica (1951). His poetry received many awards at the Jocs Florals of Catalunya and of Mallorca, and his contributions to folkloric traditions are to be found in the Cançoner popular de Mallorca. In 1949 the Institut d'Estudis Catalans awarded him the Jaume I prize and, in 1955, the Josep Massot i Palmés prize, for his folkloric collections Codolades, Glosades i Romanços and Amoroses respectively. He continued to receive further awards until 1962 for his folkloric studies. His Cançoner is an almost exhaustive collection of popular Mallorquian songs. |
