| Spanish writer and film scriptwriter. His output, almost always concerned with social criticism, is renowned for its so-called ‘black humour’. He began his literary career by collaborating in La Cordoniz. Among his books, Vida del repelente niño Vicente (1955) and Los ilusos (1958) are considered to be the most typical. As a scriptwriter, he contributed notably to the post-Civil War revival of Spanish cinema. Outstanding are his scripts for M Ferreri: El pisito (1958), El cochecito (1960), La gran comilona (1973), and La última mujer (1976); for Berlanga: Plácido (1960), El verdugo (1963), ¡Vivan los novios! (1969), Tamaño natural (1973), and La vaquilla (1985); and for C Saura: Peppermint frappé (1967), El jardín de las delicias (1970), Ana y los lobos (1972), and La prima Angélica (1973). |
