| Prominent Jewish teacher and leader of the reformulation of Judaism after the fall of Jerusalem (AD 70), who helped to found rabbinic Judaism. His early career was apparently in Galilee, although there are also traditions of his legal disputes with the Sadducees in Jerusalem before its fall. Afterwards he was instrumental in reconstituting the Sanhedrin council in Jabneh. |
