| Latin epic poet and playwright, born in Rudiae, Italy. He is said to have served in the Punic Wars, and returned to Rome with Cato the Elder, where he taught Greek, and attained the rank of Roman citizen. He introduced the hexameter into Latin; but only fragments of his many writings survive. |
