| The son of Theobald II, Count of Blois and Champagne, born in Blois, France. In 1081 he married Princess Adela of England, the daughter of William I of England and Matilda of Flanders. He served in the First Crusade (1095–9) and was killed in the Battle of Ascalon in Palestine (1102). One of their children became Stephen, King of England. |
