| German politician, born in Baden-Baden, SW Germany, the last Imperial Reichskanzler. He was appointed by Wilhelm II to seek a settlement in World War 1, and negotiated the armistice with US President Wilson. He independently announced the abdication of the emperor in November 1918 in order to ward off the danger of a communist revolution, and handed over the office of Reichskanzler to Ebert. |
