| Leather merchant and controversial Anabaptist preacher, born in London, UK. He was nominated by Oliver Cromwell to sit in the Short Parliament of 1653, which was nicknamed after him the Barebone's Parliament. His fiery preaching attracted huge crowds and often occasioned riots. Fiercely opposed to the restoration of Charles II, he was imprisoned in the Tower in 1661–2. |
