| Neoplatonist philosopher, born in Tyre or Batanea. After studying at Athens he went to Rome (c.263), where he studied under Plotinus, becoming his disciple and biographer. He wrote a celebrated treatise against the Christians, of which only fragments remain. His most influential work was the Isagoge, a commentary on Aristotle's Categories, widely used in the Middle Ages. |
