| Mexican political leader and president of Mexico (1924–8), born in Guaymas, W Mexico. A former schoolmaster and tradesman, he took part in the revolt against Porfirio Diaz (1910), and became secretary of the interior (1920–4), then president. In 1929 he founded the National Revolutionary Party. He was defeated by Lázaro Cárdenas, and from 1936 to 1941 was exiled to the USA. |
