| Humanist, born in Barga, Tuscany, NW Italy. He taught Latin and Greek in Pisa from 1549 and wrote historical works and poems in the vernacular. Best known for his Latin poems, they include Cynegeticon (1561), Poemata Omnia (1568), and Syrias (1591) in which he imitated Torquato Tasso's Gerusalemme Liberata. |
