| Sculptor and architect, born in Carona, N Italy. After working in Padua, and probably Florence, he settled in Venice c.1467, and became the head of the major sculpture workshop of the day. With the assistance of his sons, Tullio (c.1455–1532) and Antonio (c.1458–c.1516), he was responsible for both the architecture and sculptural decoration of Santa Maria dei Miracoli (1481–9), one of the finest Renaissance buildings in Venice. He also designed many monuments, including the tomb of Dante in Ravenna. |
