| Painter of the Bolognese School, born in Cento, N Italy. His major work is the ceiling fresco ‘Aurora’ at the Villa Ludovisi in Rome for Pope Gregory XV. After 1642 he became the leading painter of Bologna, where he died. His name means ‘the squint-eyed’. |
