| biography:
| Painter, born in Assendelft, The Netherlands. The son of an engraver, he trained in Haarlem, and may have been inspired by Jacob van Campen's architectural drawings. He is the acknowledged master of paintings of church interiors. Unlike previous architectural paintings, his works are precisely drawn images of known and identifiable churches, such as ‘View in the Nieuwe Kerk at Haarlem’ (1652, Haarlem). |
