| biography:
| French architect. He studied under Julien David Leroy and became a close friend of Claude Nicolas Ledoux. Appointed inspector-general of buildings of the Republic, he won a competition held by Napoleon to design a building in honour of the French troops. This was the Temple of Glory, now the Church of the Madeleine, built in the Neoclassical style. Vignon died before the completion of the building under the Restoration, and it was completed by Jean-Jacques Huve (1806–28). |
