| Inventor, born in Litchfield, New York, USA, the son of the inventor, Eliphalet Remington (1793–1861). He entered his father's small-arms factory, and for 25 years superintended the mechanical department. As president of the company from 1860, he perfected the Remington breech-loading rifle. |
