| Painter, born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He was possibly a pupil of Rembrandt, and certainly a member of the same artistic circle. He painted portraits, religious subjects, and scenes of everyday life, but his best paintings by far were panoramic landscapes with large areas of sky. |
